Chapter 37 Retired General "Shy-Rock" (2) The 1948 Arab-Israeli War (Nakba) (1/3)

There remained one big problem. It was the sovereignty of Jerusalem and its surrounding area. For the Jews, it was their homeland promised by Yahweh, the supreme existence. They were expelled from Jerusalem against their will two thousand years ago. It was called "Diaspora". The British government promised to rebuild the Jewish homeland in exchange for financial assistance for the war against Germany.

The Arabs, on the other hand, had been living in the Jerusalem region since prehistoric era. Their dream was to create their own nation state independent from the Ottoman Turks. Due to the contribution to the victory of World War I by cooperating with Britain, Palestinians considered it a proper right to establish Palestinian state.

U.K. promised to Jews and Arabs respectively. But its promises entirely contradicted each other. The result came out after World War I. Jews and Arabs launched independence movements. The disorder took place in the whole area of Jerusalem.
