Anat’s husband was selected by her father. He
was by far the best pilot within his father's subordinates. He had visited her home
often when Anat was still young. Shy-Rock liked young officer not only for his
skill and sense as a pilot but also because he was the same Ashkenazi.
Shy-Rock was a worshipper of genealogy. He was
steadfast in his belief that the Jews were the Chosen People. In addition, he
believed that the Ashkenazim were the "Jews of the Jews." For him,
the Sephardim from Iberian Peninsula were one step below Ashkenazim. The Mizrachim
from the Middle East and Caucasus were second-class citizens. The new
immigrants from Russia in the 1990s, even they claimed to be Jews, were the
third-class citizens. Shy-Rock doubted them whether genuine Jews or not.
